Depending on where you live you might have to pay an annual tax for your dog(s). Dog taxes (hondenbelasting) vary from area to area, and will cost approximately €60 – 150 per year.
Additional charges will be added for each additional dog. Cats or other animals do not require registration or tax. Of the northern provinces, only the municipalities of Leeuwarden, Smallingerland and Vlieland collect the tax in 2023.
