Bus
Many busses in the regions of Drenthe, Groningen and Friesland are operated by Qbuzz and Arriva. You can always use journey planner apps such as 9292 or Glimble to check schedules from your phone, or find them on the 9292 website.
You can check in and out directly with your debit or credit card or mobile phone using OVpay, but it is generally cheaper to use anĀ OV-chipkaart. You can only pay with a credit or debit card when buying a single ticket. Also check the different day ticket (dagkaart) offers on the provider’s websites!
The ticket price taken from the OV-chipkaart (or your bank card) depends on the number of zones and distance through which you travel. There are also personal monthly bus passes available.
Travelling with children
Children aged 3 and under always travel for free and children between the ages of 4 and 11 travel for free with one adult (max 3 children per paying adult) in Groningen and Drenthe, and you can apply for a OV-chip card for your child when they are 3 and a half and apply for the KidsVrij subscription.
