Market Days

Nearly every village and city in the northern Netherlands has at least one market day during the week. You can search for marktdagen in your municipality to see when and where they are held, and check the local market days and times in Groningen, Drenthe and Friesland.

There is also usually a shopping street or shopping district in most municipalities. On Monday mornings, most shops in the city centers are closed until 13:00, with a few exceptions. Most shops are open until 18:00 on normal days, but during evening shopping (koopavond) on Thursdays, shops stay open until 20:00 or 21:00. There are also Sunday opening hours (koopzondag), during which shops may be open from noon until 17:00.
