Vacancy: Intern for Events Area (0,6 – 0,7 fte Min. 24 hrs a week)

The International Welcome Center North – IWCN is opening the opportunity for an international intern in Groningen to work at the Events Area.

 

Organization

The International Welcome Center North – IWCN is a small, flat organization with an enthusiastic team that provides services to international knowledge workers and their employers, including also internationals who came as partners of Dutch people, and international students who are willing to stay in The Netherlands.  We are dedicated to supporting the international community to settle in northern Netherlands, in the provinces of Groningen, Friesland, and Drenthe. The events area covers Information Events, Integration Events & Social Events with an emphasis in Community Building.  We have a team of event coordinators in Groningen & Friesland with the support of a big number of enthusiastic volunteers.

 

Function:

As an Intern for the Events Area at IWCN you will:

  • Support the Event coordinator in Groningen in planning & hosting in-person or virtual events. (This may occasionally include events after 5:00 PM or on weekends, although not constantly)
  • Support the Event coordinator in communicating with the group of volunteers and external collaborators who with we organize the events. (Both internationals and Dutch).
  • Participate in bringing new ideas for events, brainstorming possibilities, and expanding our network opportunities
  • Follow the guidelines provided by the event coordination and management, and play a collaborative role in relation with the other areas of the organization: Communication, Information, Formalities & Business.

 

Skills & Requirements:

  •  Be currently enrolled in a study program at a higher education institution in the provinces of Groningen, Friesland or Drenthe. Priority will be given to studies related to event management or international culture oriented
  • Experience working in intercultural environments and/or Integration to Dutch Society related is preferred.
  • Interest and sensibility about the international community in the northern Netherlands. Understand their needs, challenges and strengths.
  • Sensitivity and skills in intercultural communication.  (Ability to understand different perspectives according to the culture, respect for differences, knowing your own biases, approaching differences with curiosity and openness).
  • Excellent command of spoken and written English; some extra knowledge of Dutch is a plus.
  • Excellent teamwork collaborative abilities and interpersonal skills
  • Assertive communication with colleagues and stakeholders.
  • Enthusiastic and positive attitude towards new challenges and adaptability to an organization that is constantly changing.
  • Good time management skills, balancing work with health and self-care.

 

Working Conditions:

Time: Starting first semester 2026, For 4 – 5 months. (Late January to June)

Hours of work:   24 to 32 hrs a week.  Semi-flexible schedule, to be established with the Events Coordinator.

Remuneration:  €400 per month based on a 32 hrs a week.

Working place: At the office in Groningen, sometimes at event´s venues in northern Netherlands. Occasionally from home.
