Municipal Health Care Service
For general questions on health and health care, you can contact your local GGD (Gemeentelijke Geneeskundige en Gezondheidsdienst, Municipal Medical and Health Care Service).
Among other services, the GGD can advise travellers about vaccines they need for travel to certain countries. If you will be visiting a (sub)tropical country, you should make an appointment eight (8) weeks prior to departure. Please note: the costs for the vaccines may not be covered by health insurance.
Although their website is only in Dutch, in Groningen you can call 050 367 4991 and speak to advisors in English about a wide variety of health topics, such as bullying, birth marks, nutrition, drug and alcohol abuse, among others. The GGD also give advice on children’s health matters.
