By offering new monthly cross-border consultation hours at the IWCN in Groningen, the GrensInfoPunt Eems Dollard Regio (GIP EDR) will be able to inform and advise more people in the region about the consequences of living, working, doing business, or studying in Germany, and vice versa. The consultation hours were officially opened during a breakfast meeting at the IWCN on Friday 19 January. Various speakers, including Corinna Glasner and Matthias Brandt (UMCG), Marcel Baanders (director Baanders Export) and Johann Willms (Landkreis Leer), related their experiences with cross-border issues. See film of the opening, produced by the Groningen Internet Courant, at this link.
“We see that there is increasing interest in the neighboring country on both sides of the border, partially due to the labor market”, said Michiel Malewicz (advisor GIP EDR). By organizing monthly consultation hours in Groningen, which complement the current hours in Bad Nieuweschans, Emmen and Papenburg (Germany), the advisors of GIP EDR can meet the growing need for first line information and advice with regards to the neighboring country. Information relating to taxes, pension, health insurance and working conditions for a new job are examples of issues about which the advisors can provide concrete, personalized assistance. “Everyone, from student to retiree, is welcome with his or her cross-border questions”, according to Malewicz.
Michiel Kasteleijn (Business Manager IWCN) stated that the cooperation with GIP EDR is completely logical. “The IWCN is a one-stop shop for internationals who are searching for information and help for everything related to living in the Netherlands. Our largest client group at the moment are German knowledge workers. By facilitating consultation hours of the GIP EDR, we have even more knowledge in house and are better able to serve the needs of the clients.”
