You can purchase a used car privately by checking advertisements in local newspapers or online.

Cars in the Netherlands are expensive compared to other countries. It can also be expensive to run a car:  road tax depends on the type of fuel and weight of the car, and car insurance is also expensive. If you purchase a new car, be aware that you will have to pay a luxury tax (BPM) on the car, which can be quite expensive.

In order to buy a car, you need proof that you are registered at your address. The municipality can issue this.
