Dutch and non-Dutch Population

The north of the Netherlands is spread over one-fifth of the area of the Netherlands, despite having only one-tenth of the population. It is the least densely populated region of the Netherlands, with a total population of 1.722.312 on 1 January 2018.

According to the Central Bureau of Statistics, in 1 January 2018 there were 55.253 foreigners living in the Northern Netherlands, consisting of  26.746 in Groningen, 16.265 in Friesland and 12.242 in Drenthe.
