Decisio Report on the Economic Impact of Internationals in the Netherlands

Decisio is a Dutch economic research and reporting agency, headquartered in Amsterdam. In 2017, Dutch expatriate centers across the country, including the IWCN, together with the Ministry of Economic Affairs/ the Netherlands Foreign Investment Agency (the EZ/ NFIA), and the Dutch tax authorities commissioned Decisio to carry out research of international workers, self-employed people and students. Utilizing two data sets, from 2009 and 2013, with updates for 2015, the research considered family composition, nationality, income; working sectors, regional distribution and the life/work balance of international people. When researching international students, nationality, age, field of study and regional spread, amongst other factors, were the main focus.

The research was undertaken on both a national and regional level, with the Northern Netherlands taken as one region. Within the Northern Netherlands region, the provinces of Fryslân, Groningen and Drenthe and the municipalities of Groningen, Assen, Eemsmond, Emmen, Heerenveen, Leeuwarden, Smallingerland, Hoogezand-Sappemeer and Ten Boer were surveyed. The research report (in Dutch) from 3 October 2017 can be found here.
