The Northern Innovation Board (NIB) was set up in 2016 with the aim of ‘speeding up the Northern economy’, bringing together businesses, educational institutions, and government departments. Presently, the Innovation Board is thematically focused on developing hydrogen-based power sources, to contribute to a more sustainable energy system.
In line with the Paris Climate Accords of 2015, the Northern Netherlands (and the NIB) are aiming to create a carbon emission-free economy by 2050. The Northern Netherlands is already one of the leading regions for wind energy, and the NIB hopes that a ‘green economy’ will replace the natural-gas reliant economy of today. For more information about this green goal, please see the [in English] NIB Green Hydrogen Economy report.
NIB is also focusing on healthy nutrition and next level water technology.
