Dutch and non-Dutch Population

The north of the Netherlands is spread over one-fifth of the area of the Netherlands, despite only consisting of one-tenth of the population. It is the least densely populated region of the Netherlands, with a total population of 1,718,000.

According to the Central Bureau of Statistics, in 2013 there were approximately 40,000 foreigners living in the Northern Netherlands, consisting of  20,000 in Groningen, 12,000 in Friesland and 8,000 in Drenthe.
