Dutch and non-Dutch Population

The north of the Netherlands is spread over one-fifth of the area of the Netherlands, despite only consisting of one-tenth of the population. It is the least densely populated region of the Netherlands, with a total population of 1,722,247 in 2017.

According to the Central Bureau of Statistics, in 2017 there were approximately 52.800 non-Dutch nationalities living in the Northern Netherlands, consisting of  25.200 in Groningen, 15.200 in Friesland and 12.300 in Drenthe.
