Required Documents

List of documents required for BRP registration at the Municipality

  • Proof of ID:  Valid passport or country ID.
  • Proof of address:  Signed rental contract, property bill of sale, or signed statement of current resident that the registrant is allowed to live with them plus a copy of the current resident’s passport. The address must be within one of the participating municipalities (Groningen, Assen, Leeuwarden, Heerenveen, Smallingerland (Drachten), Ten Boer, Midden-Groningen (formerly Hoogezand-Sappemeer, Slochteren and Menterwolde), Eemsmond, Emmen, Veendam, and Noordenveld).
  • Proof of birth:  Birth certificate – translated into English, Dutch, French or German, and legalized, if required (see legalization of documents). Some countries also offer a Multilingual Extract from Civil Status Records which then do not require translation. A Birth certificate should list your name, the names of your parents, the date of birth, and place of birth. Chinese citizens require 3 proofs of birth.
  • Proof of marital status, if applicable:  Marriage, registered partnership or divorce certificate(s) – translated into English, Dutch, French or German, and legalized, if required (see legalization of documents). Some countries also offer a Multilingual Extract from Civil Status Records which then do not require translation. Chinese citizens require 3 proofs of marriage.
  • Non-EU/EEA/Swiss citizens must have a valid residence permit or proof that they have applied for one (sticker in their passports from the IND).
  • Completed Municipal registration form for each person in the family

NOTE: ALL OF THE REQUIRED DOCUMENTS NEED TO BE COMPLETE, CORRECT, and DELIVERED ON TIME IN ORDER TO USE THE ACCELERATED FORMALITIES SERVICES AT THE IWCN.
