Facilitators for Start-up Permit

You wish to work in the Netherlands as a start-up entrepreneur. A residence permit as ‘start-up’ gives ambitious entrepreneurs a year to start an innovative company in the Netherlands.

What makes a product or service innovative?

The product or service is innovative if it has at least 1 of the following 3 aspects:

  • The product or service is new to the Netherlands.
  • It involves new technology for production, distribution or marketing.
  • It involves an innovative organizational procedure and method.

What are the additional requirements for the Start-up permit?

  • Collaboration with a reliable and experienced facilitator (a business mentor).
  • The start-up entrepreneur has a step-by-step plan( in order to move from idea to business.
  • The start-up entrepreneur and the facilitator are both registered in the Trade Register of the Chamber of Commerce.
  • There are sufficient financial means (resources) to be able to reside and live in the Netherlands.

Where can you find a facilitator?

There are three facilitators recognized by the Netherlands Enterprise Agency (RVO) in the Northern Netherlands:

The cooperation between the start-up and the facilitator must be officially established in a (signed) agreement between the start-up entrepreneur and the facilitator. The facilitator must have experience in guiding innovative start-ups. The facilitator provides the entrepreneur with a package of support tailored to the specific needs of the start-up. For example, the facilitator can assist with operational management, marketing, research and investment acquisition for setting up an innovative business.
